Blog | The 15 Signs of Autism

You may or may not be aware, but there are 15 common symptoms of Autism and Autism Spectrum Disorders. Not every child with Autism displays these behaviors, but they are thought of as stereotypical behaviors. If your child is 3 years old, now is the time to be mindful of these symptoms. Signs of Autism may appear during infancy, but sometimes a child’s development appears normal until about 2 years old and then regresses quickly. The following are 15 behaviors that can signal Autism.

  • Lacks Interest In Other Children
  • Avoids Eye Contact
  • Resists Being Touched
  • Seems Oversensitive To Bright Lights
  • Has No Words By 16 Months
  • Does Not Point To Share Interests
  • Repeats Words Or Phrases
  • Has Frequent Tantrums
  • Shows Little Pretend Play
  • Has Difficulty Taking Turns
  • Resists Changes
  • Spins Objects
  • Has Difficulty Catching a Ball, Buttoning, or Tying Shoes
  • Shows Little Fear Of Dangers
  • Flaps Hands, Flicks Fingers, Rocks Body, Or Bangs Head

And remember, just because your child exhibits some of these behaviors, it does not mean they have an Autism Spectrum Disorder.
